I am so excited to share another wedding day of a former student!!! Hayley is an incredible young woman now, just as she was then. She has always made such a lasting impression on not just me, but all those she meets. It’s hard to ignore her contagious smile and laugh, her sweet spirit, her desire to see people through God’s eyes and her extreme loyalty for friends and family.

I photographed her senior portraits as well years ago so when she contacted me about her wedding day, I was thrilled to have the chance to serve Hayley in a whole new context. I had heard so many fun and sweet things about her fiance, Sam when she met with me at my home one evening with her bestie. And then when I met the two of them together, I could see they were the perfect match for each other…just enough similarities to work well together in life and just enough differences to balance each other out. And of course, that chemistry and joy! And oh wow, did we have fun on their engagement session at Maymont. What a joy that was!

And their wedding day was nothing short of lovely, fun and full of love. Family and friends came together to celebrate as they honored each other, their families and God. They had so many friends help them with their big day and it their blue and teal DIY wedding came together perfectly.

Hayley shares how the two first met:

Sam and I have known each other for years through our home church. One day we began talking until it became an everyday habit. We started getting to really know one another inside and out. When we hung out it seemed like we knew each other our whole lives. He is, to this day, my best friend and I cannot imagine my life without him!!

And how Sam proposed:

Sam and a bunch of my friends came down to school to visit me for my birthday. We went out to dinner at one of my favorite restaurants. On our way back from dinner Sam suggested we stop for dessert. We decide to go to sweetfog-a very special place for us. We had our first date here and it has become a special tradition for us. As we are in line to check out, Sam asks, “don’t you want the special topping?”. I begin looking around for a flyer to explain what he’s talking about. “Strawberry sauce?” I ask. “No, the secret topping?” At this point i’m looking around confused and glance at the cashier to see if she has any idea what he is talking about. “I guess not?” I said. To which he replied, ‘It’s a good thing I brought it with me” he kneels down and pulls out the ring. He proceeds to ask me and I begin crying like a baby. I was glad it was at a spot that was so special to us and in front of our closest friends.

I am so honored to have photographed such a lovely day full of wonderful best friend speeches, a deeply meaningful ceremony and a reception full of dancing and life. Hayley and Sam, it has been a joy to serve you both! Happy Elliott After!
